La tecnología es omnipresente en nuestras vidas, y aunque en español se usan muchas palabras que vienen del inglés, no es fácil comunicarse con soltura sobre temas tecnológicos, ¡empezando por la correcta pronunciación!
Por eso, en este artículo no solo vamos a enseñarte todo el vocabulario relacionado con la tecnología en inglés que puedas necesitar, sino también haremos hincapié en cómo se pronuncia y sobre todo, cómo usar el vocabulario en estructuras comunes como Can I plug in my charger? (¿Puedo enchufar mi cargador?), I’m having trouble downloading… (Estoy teniendo problemas a la hora de descargar…) y There’s something wrong with… (Algo le pasa a…), entre otras.

** Aprovechando que sale la palabra key, te enseñamos un par de teclas clave: la barra espaciadora se dice spacebar y la tecla enter se dice enter (key) en inglés británico o return (key) en inglés americano.
*** Un sinónimo de cable es wire, pronunciado /uáie(r)/. De ahí que inalámbrico se diga wireless. Por ejemplo, a wireless mouse o a wireless keyboard. ¡Y otra cosa! Wire también se refiere al micrófono oculto como el que llevan los informantes de la policía (He’s wearing a wire – Lleva un micrófono oculto). Ya te encaja por qué se llama así la famosa serie The Wire, ¿verdad?

- Ten en cuenta que al usar los phrasal verbs to switch on, to switch off y to plug in, el sustantivo puede ir entre el verbo y la preposición (Switch on the screen / Switch the screen on), pero cuando hay un pronombre como it, este debe ir sí o sí entre el verbo y la preposición: Switch it on y no Switch on it.

Vamos a trabajar ahora las estructuras It takes… to… (Se tarda… en…), It doesn’t take (a long time)… (No se tarda (mucho tiempo)…) y (How long) does it take…? (¿(Cuánto) se tarda…?).
Para expresar mucho tiempo, en lugar de a lot of time solemos decir a long time, literalmente ‘un tiempo largo’.

It isn't working
Si lo que pasa es que no funciona una determinada cosa, recurrimos a it isn’t working, expresado en presente continuo. En el caso de que algo lleve mucho tiempo sin funcionar, diríamos it doesn’t work, en presente simple.

Otra forma de decir que algo no funciona, pero de una manera algo menos directa, es it doesn’t seem to be working, que en español sería algo así como parece que no funciona. Decimos que es una expresión menos directa porque ese seem (parece) suaviza un poco el tono.

Vamos a ver ahora unas frases con there’s something wrong with, que usamos para decir que algo pasa en el sentido de que o no funciona o no va bien. Para preguntar qué le pasa a algo (o a alguien) usamos What’s wrong with…?.

To have trouble doing something
Una buena manera de decir que tienes problemas con algo es to have trouble with something. Cuidado, porque decimos to have TROUBLE with y no to have troubles with.
También verás frases con to have trouble (sin with) seguido del gerundio, que usamos para expresar tener problemas para + verbo: I’m having trouble switching on my computer (Estoy teniendo problemas para encender el ordenador). Pronuncia la primera sílaba de trouble bajando la mandíbula: /traabl/.
