Si alguna vez te paran para preguntarte en inglés dónde está la farmacia más cercana, lo ideal sería contestar con palabras... ¡y no solo con gestos! But don't worry! Con unos ejemplos de Speak English Now vamos a dominar esta situación.
Para empezar, te dejamos estas palabras clave:

- First no se pronuncia /firrrst/: la "r" ni se oye. Es /feeesssttt/, con una "e" alargada.
- El equivalente en inglés de las construcciones a la izquierda y a la derecha lleva la preposición on: on the left y on the right. Por cierto, no decimos /lefff/ ni /raij/, sino /lefttt/ y /raittt/: ¡marcando bien la “t” del final!
- ¡La palabra turn engaña! Cuando la pronuncies, la “u” y la “r” no tienen que sonar. Esas dos letras se convierten en una “e” alargada como la de first: /teennn/.
Para dar las indicaciones utilizamos el imperativo. ¿Cómo se forma? ¡Con el verbo tal cual! Y no, no cambia, ¡siempre es igual! Gira a la derecha es Turn right. ¿Y Girad a la derecha? Turn right. ¿Y Gire a la derecha? Turn right. ¿Y qué hay de Giren a la derecha? ¡También Turn right! Fácil, ¿verdad?
Eso sí: ¡no pongas sujeto! No decimos You turn right, sino Turn right a secas.

¡OJO!
Para terminar de indicar dónde queda el destino que sea, utiliza and it’s… (y es… o y está…) tal y como ves en los ejemplos de arriba: está en la primera calle a la derecha, it’s the first street on the right; está por ahí, it’s over there; está a la derecha, it’s on the right.
- Alright es otra forma de decir OK o ¡Vale!, y se pronuncia /oolraittt/.
- Si lo que quieres es preguntar por una dirección, puedes decir How do I get to…? (¿Cómo llego a…?). Para preguntar ¿Cómo llegamos (nosotros) allí?, cambia el sujeto I por we y añade there (allí): How do we get there? Ojo: no digas ‘How do we get to there?’; ¡olvida ese sin ‘to’!
- ¡Eso es! se dice That's it!, pronunciado todo junto: /dzatttsittt/.

Con esta estructura podrás explicar de manera educada cómo llegar a cualquier destino: you need to (tienes que) + lo que tienes que hacer. Por ejemplo: Tienes que subirte al metro en Notting Hill Gate y luego tienes que bajar en Oxford Circus, You need to get on the underground at Notting Hill Gate and then you need to get off at Oxford Circus.
