GRAMMAR
The Superlative
Generally, the superlative of shorter adjectives is formed by adding the suffix -est to the end of the word: the smallest, the tallest, the shortest, the longest, etc. The superlative of longer adjectives is formed by adding the most at the beginning of the word: the most complicated, the most boring, the most amazing, or the most dangerous.
Two syllable adjectives are tricky in the superlative. Words like happy, tasty and funny, with a consonant + -y ending, become happiest, tastiest and funniest in the superlative, with an -iest ending. Adjectives that end in a consonant, like boring, famous or worried, become the most boring, the most famous and the most worried, with the most.
And… There are quite a few exceptions to the two rules mentioned above. The most important are that, good and well become best in the superlative, and bad becomes worst. Let’s see some examples!
